Ole Miss, Clemson tampering case impact with NCAA not pausing enforcement, per report

Dellenger reported that executives from the Big Ten urged the NCAA to pause enforcement of tampering cases while the policies around the rule can be modernized.

Dellenger also reported that executives from the Big 12 and ACC are opposed to the pause.

Where Ole Miss football tampering allegations stand

Clemson football coach  Dabo Swinney accused Ole Miss of tampering on Jan. 23. He spoke specifically about transfer linebacker  Luke Ferrelli .

Ferrelli played at Cal in 2025 and entered the transfer portal after the season. He initially transferred to Clemson. Swinney said he enrolled to be a Tiger.

Swinney alleged that Ole Miss coach Pete Golding send Ferrelli a picture of a contract. Ferrelli wound up flipping on Clemson and committing to Ole Miss.

Swinney said Clemson sent information about the allegations to the NCAA.

Will Pete Golding, Ole Miss be penalized for tampering with Clemson?

The NCAA has not issued a ruling on the matter.

What Swinney alleged would constitute a violation of the tampering rules. Because the NCAA is not pausing its enforcement to modernize the rules, it's possible Golding could be punished.

The NCAA has issued punishment for similar actions in the recent past, including suspensions .

Who is Luke Ferrelli?

Ferrelli is a nice addition for Golding and the Rebels, especially after the departure of linebacker TJ Dottery, who transferred to LSU .

Ferrelli started 13 games in 2025 and was Cal's second-leading tackler with 91 as a redshirt freshman. He was a three-star recruit coming out of Carlsbad High School in California . Ferrelli was teammates with star Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin .
