According to a report by Nikos Kotsisof Sport24.gr, Olympiacos are set to trigger the 16 million euros release clause for Racing de Santander midfielder Gustavo Puerta .
The Red and Whites from Piraeus have sent an official offer, rumoured to be the actual release clause for Puerta to the Spanish top-flight side. Olympiacos have decided to break the bank in the last few hours to bring the Colombian international to the club after missing out on Toulouse midfielder Cristian Casseres Jr., who opted for a continued stay at the French outfit even after his club reached an agreement with the Greek giants over his transfer.
The Olympiacos management has informed Puerta's entourage that they are ready to go all-in to acquire the player's services. Thrylos have a verbal agreement in place on personal terms with the 23-year-old. As things stand, Puerta is hours away from becoming the most expensive signing in Greek club football history.
Liga Portugal giants SL Benfica and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have also sent official offers to Real Racing Club for the former Bayer Leverkusen man; however, it is currently unknown whether these two clubs are going to activate his release clause. If they do, the Piraeus side could have a new front open in this saga, and they need to get his signature done as soon as possible.
West Ham 's Edson Alvarez edging closer to Olympiacos
In other news, the Red and Whites are simultaneously working on to sign West Ham United's Edson Alvarez as a potential midfield reinforcement ahead of the end of the summer transfer window. The Greeks have decided not to go cold on their tracks for the Mexican national team captain due to a high-value pursuit of Puerta.
Alvarez is the second Mexican player in his window to be probed by Olympiacos following the explosive signing of Armando Gonzalez from Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara.
Alvarez has shown a positive intent in joining Olympiacos, as the club step up their attempts amidst rumours of Santiago Hezze 's imminent departure in the coming days.
Apart from these two negotiations, Evangelos Marinakis is close to signing Marcus Pedersen from Serie A outfits Torino on a €8 million. Joakim Maehle's possible transfer from Wolfsburg has become a rather tough affair in the last few hours, and the Norwegian international is a much more easier option to get without a significant investment.
More details are expected to emerge soon regarding all three sagas.
