PITTSBURGH —It has been heavily debated whether the Pittsburgh Steelers would consider trading any of their star players during the 2026 NFL Draft. However, general manager Omar Khan just revealed there’s definitely some truth to it.

In fact, Khan said that he has and will continue fielding trade calls with the draft just a few days away.

“It happens every year. It happens throughout the year, not just now. People will call,” Khan said. “I’d say maybe less than 5% of those calls actually turn out to be something. Calls happen every year.”

Khan didn’t necessarily reveal who he’s been fielding trade calls about, but Steelers linebackers Alex Highsmith  and  Nick Herbig have both been mentioned as names who could be moved during the draft.

“Highsmith’s name, along with fellow edge Nick Herbig are definitely floating around front offices as the draft approaches, although it seems that any trade would be a one-but-not-both scenario, with Highsmith being the likelier candidate to get moved,”  NFL insider Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports wrote . “As one high-level personnel executive said, ‘I think they will trade one of them [between Highsmith and Herbig].’”

Highsmith, 28, still has two years left on his current contract and has been a key piece along the Steelers defensive line since being drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, recording 337 tackles, 45 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 10 passes defensed, three interceptions and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Herbig, 24, is heading into his last year of his rookie deal and continues to improve every year as he’s coming off a career-high 30 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three passes defensed last season.

The Steelers would likely prefer to keep both players, but the question is whether or not they would be fine with splitting playing time with star linebacker  T.J. Watt  clearly slated in on the other side.

If they aren’t, Pittsburgh may be forced to ultimately deal one if the price is right.
