Orioles Announce Ryan Mountcastle News After Leaving Giants Game

The Baltimore Orioles returned to .500 with a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, just after dropping the series opener 6-3 to the Giants a day earlier.

Despite the win, the main storyline surrounding the Orioles early in the season has been the mounting injuries the team is dealing with, all of them impacting lineup stability.

Baltimore entered the game already missing catcher Adley Rutschman , as he was placed on the injured list with ankle inflammation. The move forced an immediate change in the lineup, with the Oilers starting Samuel Basallo in Rutschman's place.

On top of that, Baltimore slotted first baseman Ryan Mountcastle in the designated hitter slot, but he couldn't finish the game and exited early after a bizarre play at second base that raised concern.

In the bottom of the second inning, Mountcastle stumbled while rounding first on a double and dove into second base before remaining on the ground. He stood up, walked around a bit but ultimately was replaced and did not return to the game.

Craig Albernaz provided an update on Mountcastle's status after the game while describing what happened on the field.

“The way he was kind of describing it, the look, just funky the way he obviously was running around first,” Albernaz said. “But yeah, it’s more in his foot. We're going to get an MRI tomorrow.”

Mountcastle is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury and provide a timeline before the series finale against San Francisco on Sunday.

Albernaz, meanwhile, acknowledged the growing list of injuries affecting the team but didn't build excuses around the injury bug.

“The grind of the season,” Albernaz said. “There’s always injuries. Yeah, it’s a lot going on, but I wouldn’t say it’s difficult.”

The Orioles host the Giants at Oriole Park for their third and final game, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET.
