The Baltimore Orioles are making a push for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Orioles just added Luis Robert Jr. off waivers in an effort to boost the roster.
One Monday night, the Orioles got a much-needed victory over the Colorado Rockies . It got the O's back to .500 on the season, but it needed a game-saving play from Colton Cowser to win.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and a man on second, Jake McCarthy took a 1-0 pitch to deep center. Cowser scaled the wall and brought the home run back. It was a home run that former Orioles outfielder Adam Jones called one of the best he has seen.
"Wow what an amazing catch by Cowser to end the game. One of the best catches I've ever seen. Defense and speed are things that can't slump! Helluva athlete," Jones posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Cowser was also amazed by the catch he came down with , speaking after the game, per Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun.
"I was playing a little more shallow than I probably should have been in that situation," Cowser said. "Trying to cut down that runner at home. They have such a big outfield where your normal depth is way deeper than what it should be, so it was more than normal depth. And kind of before the play, just kind of the whole inning, it was like if there's a ball hit kind of deep, just get your head down and go. And by the grace of God, we came down with it."
The O's have won six of their last seven games, including four straight. The Orioles are now 69-69 on the season, which places them in fourth place in the AL East. Regardless of being well behind in the division, the Orioles are just a half-game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Orioles continue their series against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.
