The Baltimore Orioles have been missing a key piece of their lineup in Jackson Holliday after fracturing his hamate bone in Spring Training. The infielder was beginning to work his way back to the majors recently, with his next step being a rehab assignment in the minors . However, he suffered a setback in an at-bat for Norfolk that could change his timeline, according to Jacob Calvin Meyer via X, formerly Twitter.
Holliday took five live at-bats in Spring Training before suffering the injury. It was an unfortunate hit to his development path that started to take off in 2025. Holliday settled in defensively at second base and performed well for the Orioles at the plate, with his only issue being his propensity to strike out. He had one of his better offseasons this past winter and was ready to take another step toward being one of the top second basemen in the American League.
After struggling as a rookie under the weight of massive expectations, Holliday turned things around in 2025. Over 149 games, the infielder hit .242 with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases. With the Orioles’ lineup getting some insulation with their offseason moves to add more power, 2026 felt like a year where Jackson Holliday’s career could take off.
Baltimore was expecting him to return soon from his injury, but this setback looks like something that could reset the rehab process. The Orioles will attempt to continue keeping their heads above water with Holliday injured, as they sit 11-12, 2.5 games back of the New York Yankees .
