Forward Malik Reneau joined the Orlando Magic Summer League roster after a dominant season with the Miami Hurricanes in hopes of proving he deserves to be on a roster.
Here's everything he said in his media availability:
On building the second-half lead:
"I liked our aggressiveness, the way we came out on the defensive end, got some stops, and were able to run out and get some easy baskets in transition. That helped us and got us going, especially to start off that second half, and we just kept it going from there."
On his playstyle and what he brings to an NBA team:
"I'm a versatile four. I can shoot the ball, I can drive, and I can post up. I play inside-out the majority of the time, and I'm a good defender. I'm still showcasing that right now—being able to guard out on the perimeter, get some block shots, and defend guys bigger than me. That's who I feel like I am. I bring extreme confidence when I get in to just keep playing and play my game."
On the Summer League team's chemistry and culture:
"From the start of the summer, the way the coaches welcomed us in and the way the returning players welcomed us in helped us out a lot. It kept us in the grind and kept us pushing every single day. When everybody got their opportunity, everybody shined."
On off-season plans and what he wants to show scouts:
"Obviously, my versatility on the defensive end—showing that I can defend smaller guards as well as guys bigger than me. When I go back home, my plan is to get my conditioning up, keep pushing my body to its limits, and stay ready until it's time to go wherever I'm heading next."
On how his college career shaped his game:
"Those stops helped me out a lot. The coaching staff I had around me at Indiana was an all-pro level staff, and Miami has a great coaching staff as well with how Coach Larrañaga ran his program over there. Just having guys around me who believed in me and kept pushing me to get in the gym every single day helped me out a lot."
