The New Orleans Pelicans haven't made very many moves this offseason, which has caused the fanbase to get a little bit antsy. Now, a fake report has made the rounds about a move that the team has not made.
The current social media landscape has blurred the lines in a lot of industries, but sports news is one that is hit hard by a lot of imitators. An account for a fake reporter, "Owen Prescott," shared that the Pelicans had waived point guard Jordan Poole.
While this is something that usually does not deserve any attention, this particular report has picked up a fair bit of steam and has other publications confused. Pelicans Roundtable can clear up that this report is completely false and Poole has not been waived.
The 27-year-old is still on the Pelicans roster, with the full $34 million on the docket. Anyone who does a little bit of thinking would know that waiving Poole really wouldn't do anything for New Orleans. His contract is fully guaranteed. If it were as simple as cutting him and then the team had that money free, he would have been gone a long time ago.
The Pelicans do want that money off the books, though, but they're forced to hope they can get someone to trade for it. That's a tall order for the offseason, but he has an expiring deal, so perhaps they can find something that works closer to the trade deadline. It's an unfortunate timeline, though, because that money is keeping them from being able to make any real moves this offseason.
