Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to defy Father Time in his 23rd NBA season. Despite being 41 years old and no longer the dominant player he once was, James is still averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game this season and remains a valuable contributor to his team.
Despite that, Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks thinks that James is the most overrated player in the NBA today.
"Overrated? I'll probably say LeBron, right now," said Brooks during an appearance on N3on's Twitch livestream. "I feel like he's overrated right now. I feel like his time is coming to an end. He got to pass that on to one of our world guys, either Luka or Shai."
Brooks and Bron have a long history
While Brooks is correct that LeBron's time is coming to an end, it's hard to say he's overrated, since he's still producing the numbers we mentioned. However, given the history of on-court animosity between the two players, it's no surprise that Dillon thinks LeBron is overrated.
The tension between James and Brooks goes as far back as 2023, when the Lakers faced the Grizzlies in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. In that series, Brooks drew criticism for calling LeBron old. Then, in Game 3, he was called for a flagrant foul 2 after hitting James below the belt. Despite his antics, the No. 7-seeded Lakers upset the 2nd-seeded Grizzlies, but that began their feud.
" One of the legends, you've got to respect him in that aspect for sure. But when you're on the floor, and it's between those four lines, no matter if you're LeBron James or my grandmother, it's war from when the buzzer sounds to the end of the game, no matter who it is," he added.
Luka is the toughest player he's ever guarded
But while Dillon criticized Bron, he gave huge props to his Lakers teammate, Luka Doncic . Not only did Brooks say that Doncic should be one of the guys that James needs to pass the torch to, but he also admitted that the Slovenian superstar is the most challenging player he's ever guarded in the NBA.
" He's deceivingly quick. Like he got a quick first step and then once he got you on his back or his hip, it's like you're kind of at his mercy like the foul-baiting, like he has counter-moves like step throughs, fadeaways, like you see him, he just torched up Washington, triple double in the first half, " Brooks explained.
It's hard to blame him for saying that, though. Doncic has averages of 29.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 12 games against Brooks, and a record of 9-3 in their career head-to-head. But LeBron also put up 23.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in 26 games against Dillon, and is 17-9 in 26 games against "The Villain."
In their most recent game, though, Brooks matched 40-year-old LeBron's 16-point output, so maybe that's also why he says James is overrated.
