Jordon Riley joined the Green Bay Packers this month hoping to provide size up front for a depleted defensive line missing several key players.
Riley has now joined those players on the injured list and his season is likely now over.
He departed Saturday's 41-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens early in the second quarter after going down with an Achilles injury. The 338-pound Riley needed assistance in getting to his feet and onto a cart.
Riley, 27, was then taken to the locker room and the Packers ruled him out.
The injury came as Derrick Henry ran in for his second rushing touchdown of the game to put the Ravens ahead 14-7.
The Packers signed Riley off the New York Giants' practice squad on Dec. 3 less than a week after defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt suffered a season-ending ankle injury in a win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.
The defensive line would suffer its biggest blow as week later with the loss of All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons , who tore his ACL against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14.
It's also the second straight week that the Packers have lost a player to an Achilles injury. Tight end John FitzPatrick suffered a torn Achilles in the team's 22-16 loss to the Chicago Bears .
Riley would be one of many Packers players who departed Saturday's game with an injury, including cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Kamal Hadden , safety Zayne Anderson , wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks and finally quarterback Malik Willis .
