As the Green Bay Packers continue building out their offense, they’re relying on Zach Tom at right tackle. However, knee surgery threatened to throw a wrench into those plans.

Tom underwent a procedure over the offseason to fix a torn patellar tendon. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst doesn’t think it’ll affect his status throughout the 2026 season, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.

“Brian Gutekunst says Zach Tom had surgery after last season to repair partially torn patellar tendon. He’s doing well now. #Packers expect him to be his usual self this season,” Wood wrote.

Tom’s knee injury limited him to just 12 games in 2025. But when he was healthy, the offensive lineman’s 83.5 grade from Pro Football Focus ranked seventh/89 tackles . Tom was 15th in pass blocking (78.5) and 12th in run blocking (81.9). It’s those kinds of numbers that led the Packers to signing him to an $88 million contract extension .

Green Bay is sure to be monitoring Tom closely throughout the offseason. While Gutekunst is optimistic, he is still coming off of a serious surgery. For all the talent Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs have, they still need a strong offensive line in front of them. Tom has become one of the best at right tackle.

With his extension being four years, the Packers aren’t trying to see that fact change anytime soon. But the first order of business is simply getting Tom back on the field. After a successful surgery, Gutekunst doesn’t think that will be a problem as the Packers prepare for their upcoming campaign.
