If there was any question as to how little the Green Bay Packers care about the result against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18 , they erased it on Thursday. Matt LaFleur had already signaled that the NFC's seven-seed would rest their starters .
Jordan Love and Malik Willis have both been hurt this season. The starter missed last week with a concussion, and despite being cleared for a return, he's not going to play. LaFleur is dipping way down the depth chart and rolling with Clayton Tune instead.

A former fifth round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, Tune has seen game action 14 times. He has yet to throw a touchdown pass during his career, and has been picked off three times. One of those interceptions came earlier this year when Tune stepped in for Green Bay against the Baltimore Ravens .
It shouldn't be expected that Tune will compete at a high level, especially against a starting contingent for the Vikings. That could make his backup more necessary, and the expectation is that it won't be as straightforward as having Willis ready either.
AdvertisementGreen Bay signed former Atlanta Falcons starter Desmond Ridder on Wednesday. He hasn't played this season , but has twice been signed to the MN Vikings practice squad . It stands to reason that he has a level of insight on the opponent, and could provide value even from the sidelines.
Where do the Minnesota Vikings turn?
J.J. McCarthy is still recovering from a fracture in his throwing hand. Max Brosmer has been mediocre in limited opportunity, and Carson Wentz is out for the season . Kevin O'Connell suggested he wants everyone, including John Wolford , to be ready .

It doesn't make a ton of sense to play McCarthy at anything less than full strength. Even when healthy, he hasn't been great. In nine games this season the assumed starter has completed just 57.3% of his passes and has an 11/12 TD/INT ratio.
AdvertisementMcCarthy did practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity. That will likely remain the case the rest of the week. Brosmer looks like he should have the inside track, but we won't know until O'Connell makes it official.
