The Green Bay Packers made a few practice squad additions this week, with a handful of players banged up ahead of Week 2. Most were minor moves, but one of the newcomers could make an impact sooner rather than later.
Here's a breakdown of the Packers roster moves this week:
9/14 WR Bo Melton signed to the active roster; LS Scott Daly released
9/15 WR Chris Hilton Jr. Released
9/16 DT Eric Johnson II and WR Quincy Skinner Jr. signed to the practice squad
9/17 G Cordell Volson signed to the practice squad
Offensive Line Uncertainty Could Open the Door for G Cordell Volson
Packers left guard Aaron Banks sat out Week 1 with a knee injury, and despite practicing this week, his status for Sunday remains in question. Meanwhile, Donovan Jennings struggled mightily in place of Banks in the season opener, and the next in line is unproven rookie Jager Burton.
Enter veteran Cordell Volson, whom the Packers signed to their practice squad on Thursday . The 28-year-old has started 48 games (including three playoff games) over three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals .
But Volson is somewhat of a reclamation project.
The 28-year-old missed the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery and was released by the Bengals in the offseason. He signed a one-year $2.5 million deal with the Tennessee Titans , but was cut at the end of training camp.
In Volson's last full season, he allowed 43 pressures, 10 QB hits, and six sacks in 15 games. So, he doesn't appear to be a savior for the Packers, but he may soon be one of the only viable options.
WR Bo Melton Back on the Active Roster
Last week, the Packers made some waves after releasing wide receiver Bo Melton ahead of their matchup against the Minnesota Vikings . For a time, rumors swirled that this was the precursor to another move, but that turned out not to be the case. Instead, Melton was soon added to the Packers' practice squad before being elevated to the active roster on Sunday.
Melton did make a contribution in Week 1, catching his only target of the day for a 10-yard gain while averaging 31.0 yards over four kickoff return attempts, ninth-best in the NFL .
Now, after some early financial maneuvering by the Packers, Melton is seemingly back on the active roster for good.
