The San Diego Padres aim to redeem themselves from their debacle against the Chicago Cubs . But they get the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers next. So SD made a swift German Marquez announcement before the Thursday contest at Chavez Ravine.
The franchise took to the social media website X, formerly Twitter, to reveal their Marquez decision.
"We have placed RHP Jason Adam on the 15-day IL (injured list) with a right shoulder strain (retro to 6/30) and reinstated RHP (right-handed pitcher) Germán Márquez from the 15-day IL," the franchise posted.
Marquez arrives following one of the more forgettable performances ever in Padres history. San Diego took a massive 23-3 loss at the hands of the Cubs, emerging as its most one-sided loss ever in franchise history. Even Walker Buehler hit a career-low in that defeat.
That infamous loss sparked theories of the Padres becoming sellers ahead of the league's trade deadline. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Ty France aren't moveable pieces, though.
San Diego could explore adding a pitcher or two especially following Wednesday's abomination. Marquez helps bring back needed depth for the National League West franchise. But the lack of a deep pitching rotation eventually can doom San Diego.
Marquez owns a 3-2 overall record on the hill. He's surrendered 31 hits while allowing 19 runs and eight home runs. Marquez has struck out 19 batters in limited duty for the Padres.
The 31-year-old came to SD following a lengthy career with the Colorado Rockies , which began in 2016. He earned an MLB All-Star bid in 2021 with the franchise.
