The road to recovery for Carolina Panthers left tackle Ikem Ekwonu seems to be off to a sound start.
President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan hit the podium on Tuesday, from the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Ind. He was asked for an update on Ekwonu, who is working his way back from a ruptured patellar tendon .
"The surgery went really well," Morgan told reporters. "Ickey's doing really good. He's recovering, feeling good. I just talked to him the other day. So he's in good spirits. Unfortunate what happened. Obviously, timeline-wise, I don't really have a timeline. We'll see how it progresses, how it goes. But so far, it's looking good."
Ekwonu sustained the setback during the second offensive series of Carolina's wild-card round game against the Los Angeles Rams . He was replaced by Yosh Nijman, who finished out the 34-31 loss.
In addition to his outlook for 2026, Ekwonu's long-term status with the organization is also in question. The former sixth overall pick will enter the campaign on his fifth-year option.
Morgan continued, and noted that the team will look to add to the front this offseason.
"In terms of it impacting the draft and free agency, offensive line is a position we're always gonna be looking at," he added. "Always trying to upgrade and have as much depth as possible there. So we're just gonna attack that like we usually do."
That depth could take a hit in free agency—with Nijman, starting center Cade Mays and backup guard Brady Christensen set to hit the open market.
