The Carolina Panthers have officially reunited their quarterback with a college friend.
As announced on Monday afternoon, the team has signed wideout John Metchie. The free-agent receiver, per multiple reports, has agreed to a one-year pact with Carolina.
Metchie, a Taipei, Taiwan native, played three seasons at the University of Alabama—where he was a teammate of Panthers starting quarterback Bryce Young . He served as a go-to target for the Crimson Tide during Young's Heisman Trophy-winning campaign in 2021—recording a team-leading 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns.
Since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Metchie has picked up stops with the Houston Texans , the Philadelphia Eagles and, most recently, the New York Jets . Over his three pro seasons, he's amassed 73 receptions for 686 yards and three scores.
