Grier, a Davidson, N.C. native and Davidson Day School product, started in two games during his rookie campaign in Carolina—completing 28 of his 52 throws for 228 yards and four interceptions in a pair of losses. He did not appear in a regular-season game since then.
After his first stint with the Panthers, Grier went on to pick up stops with the the Dallas Cowboys (2021 to 2022 and 2024 to 2025), Cincinnati Bengals (2023), New England Patriots (2023), Los Angeles Chargers (2023) and Philadelphia Eagles (2024).
Grier's retirement now leaves the Panthers with three quarterbacks ahead of training camp—starter Bryce Young , backup Kenny Pickett and undrafted rookie Haynes King .
