A Promising Rookie Sits on the Sidelines

The loss of Linton hurts more than just the lineup for one game. DawgNation reported that Linton had a strong offseason and consistently earned praise from the coaching staff before the injury struck. This year, the improved Georgia pass rush was expected to feature him significantly. Without him, the unit lacks the depth and talent needed to dominate.

Smart told reporters that the Bulldogs "hope to get him back." That is a relief, but hope does not stop opposing quarterbacks. The team needs him on the field now, not later. Georgia only had 20.0 sacks last season, so adding a player of his caliber is vital. The coaching staff knows they cannot afford to wait too long for his return.

Three Sacks Is Not Enough for a Top Team

Georgia finished with just 3.0 sacks against Tennessee State . That number is too low for a team with championship aspirations. The Bulldogs dominated the game with a 63-3 victory, but the defense did not pressure the quarterback enough. AJC.com covered the injury report, listing Linton alongside other players like Jontae Gilbert who also missed time.

The injury list shows a pattern of minor issues, but Linton's absence is the most concerning. His role was to help fix the sack total that plagued the team last year. If he cannot play, the defense must find a way to generate pressure without him. The numbers from last season prove that 20.0 sacks is not an acceptable standard for this program.

Georgia must adjust its scheme to get more sacks without Linton. The coaching staff cannot rely on the same plan that produced only three sacks. DawgNation noted that the team needs to find a solution quickly.
