Derby County boss John Eustace has given an update on U.S. Men's National Team forward Patrick Agyemang after he injured his Achilles tendon during a 2-0 win over Stoke City.
The 25-year-old had to be stretchered off on Monday at Pride Park, with the former Charlotte FC star clearly upset, likely knowing that his dreams of playing at this summer's FIFA World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the U.S., were over.
It was confirmed by Derby the following day that Agyemang was indeed out of contention to play this summer, with Eustace providing a further update on Friday ahead of their trip to Southampton.

Speaking to team media , he said, "Obviously, he's not happy. But he's had the operation, which went really, really well, so everyone's pleased with that.
"I think, unfortunately, we're going to be missing him for nine months. It's a huge blow to us, of course it is, but this is football. These things happen, and the dressing room is right behind him.
"I know the fans have been sending him great messages as well. It's a huge miss to the Derby County family. He's going to end up missing the World Cup, which is a huge blow, but he'll come back even stronger now, and we'll help him through it. We can't wait for him to get back."
Asked what he can say to a player like Agyemang in this sort of situation, Eustace admitted, "You can't say anything," going on to add, "It's obviously devastating for him, but it could be a lot worse as well.
"So, let's think where he was this time last year. He's had a fantastic season. He's really progressed fantastically well, with a lot of hard work from everyone involved. He's going to come back a better player, a stronger player.
"He's got a rest now, which he deserves as well. Obviously, the amount of games he's played in the last year has been amazing, really. 60, 70 games. So, he'll get a rest, he'll come back stronger, and he'll be a top performer for us again."
Since completing his $7 million move from the MLS to the Championship last summer, Agyemang has adapted well, scoring 10 goals in 38 games, including a stint between mid-January and mid-February in which he netted four times in six games.
Agyemang's growth had also earned him a regular spot in Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT, making 14 appearances and scoring six goals since his debut in January 2025.
Without Agyemang available, this could open the door for another forward to work their way into Pochettino's World Cup roster. This may include the likes of Coventry City's Haji Wright, Toronto FC's Josh Sargent, or Vancouver Whitecaps' Brian White.
Alternatively, the Argentine coach could opt to bolster his roster with a slightly different attacking option, such as wingers Álex Zendejas of Club América or Zavier Gozo of Real Salt Lake .
