Patrick Beverley has spent years competing both against and alongside LeBron James , and the veteran guard believes James' influence extends far beyond basketball.
Speaking on the Pat Bev Podcast , Beverley made the striking claim that James belongs among the five most powerful Black men in history.
"In my opinion, he's the top five most powerful Black men to walk Earth. So when you see him and he's so cool and charismatic, it throws you off. It throws you completely off because in your mind, you're like, damn, like, this LeBron James. Like, you feel me? Like, you feel me?"
"I don't care what nobody say. You step into the locker room with LeBron, you go to the crib like, bro, I just was practicing with LeBron James. Like, you feel me? Like, his stature, his status, his, you know, eagerness to continue playing basketball, his legacy. Like, he in the locker room, you feel it."
"You feel it. You're on the court with him, you feel it. And this, mind you, it's not for everybody. It ain't for the weak, I'll tell you that. It is not for the weak. He is alpha, alpha male."
"It is not for the weak. A lot of people, you know, a lot of people get small when they're around LeBron because, you know, not him, but his aura, his presence. Like, he walks into a room, it's, man, LeBron James is in the building. Like, you feel it? Like, you feel it?"
"And he's so, like, cool. Like, he be, people that he don't know, he's, like, announcing, like, you feel me? What's up, man? LJ, LeBron, nice to meet you. And people looking like, motherf**ker, we know who you are."
Beverley's assessment is his personal opinion, but there is little question that LeBron has accumulated an extraordinary combination of athletic success, wealth, business interests, and cultural influence on and off the basketball court.
LeBron is entering his 24th NBA season as the league's all-time leading scorer. The 41-year-old has four titles, four regular-season MVP awards, and four Finals MVPs, while earning 22 All-Star selections and 21 All-NBA selections, both of which are records. He also has three Olympic gold medals.
LeBron's influence has also translated into massive financial success. Forbes currently estimates his net worth at approximately $1.4 billion. LeBron became the first active NBA player to reach billionaire status, with Forbes estimating that he has generated more than $1 billion away from basketball through endorsements and business ventures.
His portfolio includes equity investments rather than simple traditional endorsement agreements. LeBron owns a stake in Fenway Sports Group, giving him interests connected to major professional sports franchises, and his SpringHill Entertainment business was valued at $725 million when he sold a minority stake in 2021.
His long-standing relationship with Nike has also been central to his off-court empire, and it has also resulted in a billion-dollar lifetime contract.
Beverley believes this combination of accomplishments creates an unmistakable presence around LeBron. And yet Beverley says LeBron doesn't behave as though practically everyone should recognize him.
After more than two decades of championship success, business ventures, and philanthropy, that's precisely Beverley's point. LeBron has reached a level where an introduction is hardly necessary.
