This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired 8-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Peterson, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, commented on the Kansas City Chiefs ' Week 13 opponent, the Los Angeles Rams , as well as the team's busy offseason.
"The Rams never fail; the GM, Les Snead, always talked about the hell with those draft picks, and he stands on business," said Peterson. "He's all about winning right now, and I'm not upset or mad at his approach at all, because at the end of the day, that's what you judge by: winning. If you look back at the success rate of draft picks, it is not very high. However, I was a first-round draft pick, and a bunch of guys are first-round draft picks, but the stats are the stats, so he's putting his money on proven players versus younger players who are going to have to prove themselves to help him win."
In a blockbuster pre-free agency move, the Chiefs traded All-Pro defensive back Trent McDuffie to the Rams in exchange for a package of draft picks that included the No. 29 selection in this year's NFL Draft.
"He's taking more of the approach let me get proven guys that are young enough and have enough juice that can get me these championships right now, because you're graded off of wins and losses, and how many championships as a guy who's in the position that he's in, so he's putting all his chips on the table every time." said Peterson, "I'd watch poker with him because it looked like he didn't care about it. He'll go all in, bluffing or not, so he'll be a scary guy to be wheeling and dealing with on the poker table, but he's literally putting all of his chips in the basket every year, and I'm not upset at that approach at all."
The annual tournament awarded $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities.
