The Patriots could be without one of their most important defensive players on Sunday afternoon.
Linebacker Robert Spillane will be listed as questionable with a foot injury that limited him at practice this week, per coach Mike Vrabel. After playing almost all of the defensive snaps this year, the captain was limited to 69.1% in New England 's win over the Giants before the bye week.
If Spillane can't go against the Bills on Sunday, reserve linebackers Jack Gibbens and Jahlani Tavai will likely take on bigger roles alongside Christian Elliss .
In other injury news, Vrabel said Terrell Jennings has been ruled out with a concussion. The Patriots are thin at running back on the active roster, with just Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson healthy, so they'll likely sign veteran D'Ernest Johnson from the practice squad.
"D'Ernest will probably get to the game and help us," Vrabel said. "We'll have to figure some things out now and this afternoon or tomorrow for the roster."
Johnson is out of standard practice squad elevations — he's been called up the maximum three times already — so New England needs to add him to the 53-man roster. In those games, Johnson has four carries for seven yards.
