Drake Maye is the last man standing from the 2024 NFL Draft class.
According to Boston Herald's Doug Kyed , the New England Patriots are releasing cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. as part of the wave of 53-man roster cuts.
Dial, a 2024 sixth-round draft pick, carved out a notable special teams role for the Patriots during his rookie season. Under former Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo , he contributed to 83 percent of the special teams snaps. There was hope that he could build on that role even more with Mike Vrabel taking over the team in 2025, but he suffered a torn ACL during training camp, effectively ending his second-year NFL run prematurely.
With Dial now gone, Maye is the only 2024 draft pick still on the roster. That's a massive disappointment considering seven other players didn't get to see the end of their rookie contracts in New England .
Vrabel has often talked about the Patriots' depth issues, and one of the biggest reasons for those struggles is the fact that the team hasn't drafted well in recent years. Drafting and player development have been the Achilles heel for the Patriots.
It's up to the new regime to change it.
