FOXBOROUGH - Christian Barmore, speaking with the media for the first time since it was learned he was facing domestic assault and battery charges, was rather curt with his answers.
The session lasted roughly 80 seconds. The Patriots defensive tackle offered the same six word answer over and over.
Q: Would you like a chance to deny what you’re accused of?
Barmore: “I’m focused on Miami . Playing football.”
Q: What is your version of events?
Barmore: “I’m focused on Miami. Playing football.”
Q: What sort of conversations have you had with your teammates about what’s going on.
Barmore: “I’m focused on Miami. Playing football.”
And so it went. Of course, Barmore, like Stefon Diggs who is facing strangulation allegations by his personal chef, has likely been advised by his attorney not to discuss his pending cases.
Diggs, who also spoke on Friday, was open to answering football questions.
Barmore just kept to his script, although he did answer one question about being able to play football after years dealing with blood clots.
“It’s a blessing from God,” he said. “I thank God for it every day. And my coaches, medical team, everybody.”
Barmore was charged for allegedly throwing the mother of his child to the floor earlier this year, according to court documents.
The 26-year-old Patriots defensive tackle has yet to be arraigned or enter a plea on the charge of misdemeanor assault and battery on a household or family member.
He has been summoned to Attleboro District Court to be arraigned Feb. 3 for the complaint that the court issued Dec. 16 at the request of police in Mansfield, where he lives.
That date is the week before the Super Bowl, should the Patriots advance that far.
When news of the charges came to light, attorney David E. Meier, who represents the Patriots player, put out a statement, maintaining Barmore’s innocence.
“We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that no criminal conduct took place,” Meier said in the statement. “Based on the facts and the law, we expect that this personal matter will be resolved in the near future and both parties will move forward together.”
