And for a rookie still settling into the big leagues, it was the kind of moment that says a lot about the environment around him.

Paul Skenes surprises Konnor Griffin with a unique birthday gift
As highlighted by MLB on X , the Pirates pulled off one of the more unusual celebrations of the season.
“A belated birthday present for 20-year-old Konnor Griffin. The Pirates’ rookie was treated to a bouncy house in the clubhouse today,” the MLB’s X handle tweeted.
The inflatable setup was not just a quick gag. It was a full bounce house placed right inside the Pirates clubhouse, turning a routine day into something completely different.

For Griffin, it was a memorable follow-up to already marking his birthday with his first MLB home run just days earlier.
Inside the Pirates’ clubhouse moment that brought the team together
The idea reportedly started as a joke, but Skenes followed through by bringing in a full castle-style bounce house and setting it up in the middle of the clubhouse before a game against the Cardinals.
The setup included a slide and was placed in a central area where players could not miss it, instantly becoming the focal point of the room.
Skenes even worked with teammates behind the scenes to make sure the surprise actually happened, turning what could have been a small gesture into a full-team moment.

It also speaks to the kind of clubhouse Griffin has stepped into. The 20-year-old is not just one of the youngest players in the league, but also one of the most hyped prospects, arriving as a consensus No. 1 talent with expectations already building around him.
Moments like this help ease that pressure. Instead of feeling like an outsider, Griffin is clearly being embraced by teammates who are making sure he enjoys the ride as much as possible.
