The Pittsburgh Penguins should be open to adding to their roster this season.
At the time of this writing, the Penguins have a 5-6-1 record and are sixth in the Metropolitan Division. However, they are also only three points behind the third-place New Jersey Devils.
When looking at the Penguins' roster, one area that they should look to improve is the left side of their defense. Due to this, the Penguins should consider targeting Nashville Predators defenseman Nicolas Hague.
On Tuesday, The Athletic's Chris Johnston included Hague in his latest trade board and reported that the Predators defenseman is coming up in trade talks.
"The Predators are looking to remodel their blue line, and Hague's name has surfaced in some talks," Johnston wrote.
With the Penguins' left side needing a boost, a big shutdown defenseman like Hague could certainly grab their attention. The 27-year-old would have the potential to provide more stability on the Penguins' blueline, which is a need for them early on this season.
If the Penguins acquired Hague, he could slot very well in their top four. Furthermore, he would be an obvious option for Pittsburgh's penalty kill because of his steady defense-first style of play.
Hague would be more than a rental for the Penguins, too, as he has a $5.5 million cap hit through the 2028-29 season. This could make him an appealing potential option for a Penguins team that is focused on both the present and the future.
In 11 games this season for Nashville, Hague has posted one assist, 15 blocks, and 15 hits. This is after he had three goals, 15 points, and 76 hits in 62 games last season for Nashville.
