Matt Dumba will not finish the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Thursday, the organization placed the right-handed defenseman on unconditional waivers, which allows him to end his season now without participating in the AHL playoffs.
Dumba, 31, publicly expressed frustration, and his play greatly suffered in the AHL after the Penguins waived him on Dec. 12. He did rally for a hot streak before the Olympics, but did not earn a recall, and his play cooled.
The Penguins acquired Dumba from the Dallas Stars in July 2025 as part of a salary dump. Dallas included a second-round pick for the Penguins to acquire Dumba and the final year of his two-year, $3.75 million contract. However, he played in only 11 NHL games this season.
Dumba will be an unrestricted free agent.
