Penn State QB Rocco Becht shares personal injury update

Penn State football is back in full swing with spring practices after a three-month break from the field. The depth chart isn’t beginning to take form just yet, but there are a number of players who are performing well and creating a buzz around their names.

One of those players was expected to be transfer quarterback Rocco Becht , who came over from Iowa State along with Matt Campbell in hopes of winning the Nittany Lions ’ starting job. He has a good chance to do so, but he hasn’t been able to show much this spring as he recovers from a shoulder surgery he underwent back in December. It’s been a disappointing week for the position, with redshirt freshman Alex Manske sidelined for the entire spring period, but luckily it sounds like Becht is recovering well.

“I feel a lot better and that’s really the biggest thing for me,” Becht told reporters. “I could rush back and get back with the team. But I want to be fully healthy and fully repaired because I don’t want to have a season like I did last year.”

Becht is the most accomplished quarterback the Nittany Lions have had in quite some time, so the sooner he can get on the field full-time, the better. He will be working with a largely new receiving corps this season and they need all the reps they can get together.

It hasn’t been all bad, with Becht being able to work with his receivers in a non-contact setting. But as coaches and players always say, there is absolutely nothing that can simulate the speed and intensity of a practice or game situation. Becht appears to be on-track in his recovery according to him and Campbell, so hopefully he returns to practice in full capacity soon.
