The Chicago Cubs earned a 2-1 victory against the New York Mets on Monday. Nico Hoerner came through in extra innings with a sacrifice fly that led to Pete Crow-Armstrong scoring the winning run. After the game, Crow-Armstrong revealed that Horner is his favorite player in all of MLB, via Marquee Sports Network.
“We got the best bat to ball guy in baseball and my favorite player in baseball as our leadoff hitter,” Crow-Armstrong said of Hoerner. “So getting on third base with one out and having Nico up, you’re pretty confident that you’re gonna find home plate somehow.”
Hoerner and Crow-Armstrong are two of the Cubs’ stars of the future. In fact, both Hoerner and Crow-Armstrong recently agreed to contract extensions with the Cubs .
Chicago is building a team that can win now and in the future. The 2026 season has been an up and down campaign so far for Chicago, but the ball club is playing well in recent action. The Cubs swept the New York Mets and although they are still in fourth place in the National League Central division, Chicago is only 1.5 games behind the first place Cincinnati Reds at 12-9 overall.
Chicago has now earned five consecutive victories. The ball club is clearly trending in the right direction. Pete Crow-Armstrong, Nico Hoerner and the Cubs will look to keep things going in their next series against the Philadelphia Phillies . The first contest of the upcoming four-game series at Wrigley Field is scheduled for Monday night at 7:40 PM EST.
