The Philadelphia Phillies began the year with a brutal record, and while they've gone 7-1 in the Don Mattingly era, they are still a few games under .500.
If things were to fall apart again, it would not be a surprise if they traded away some players at the deadline. However, even if they still want to contend, they might part with one player who has struggled a bit this year.
Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller identified Alec Bohm as the Phillies most likely trade candidate, as the All-Star is in the final year of his deal and has been in trade rumors for a while now.
"They might give up the ghost on Alec Bohm, though, regardless of whether they're buying or selling," Miller writes.
While Bohm is an obvious trade candidate, there is one big issue: Bohm's struggles have made his value minimal at best, and he should've been dealt a long time ago.
Phillies should've traded Alec Bohm a while ago
Bohm is a former All-Star and was rumored to be available for trade during the 2024-2025 offseason. The Phillies should've traded him then.
He struggled a bit in 2025, posting just 1.5 bWAR with a decent .741 OPS. Then he was on the trade block again this past offseason, but the Phillies, once again, didn't trade him.

That clearly was a mistake, as now Bohm is hitting .161 with a .440 OPS and -0.8 bWAR on the season and is very obviously not going to fetch much in a trade if they do move on from him by the deadline.
The Phillies missed their chance to move on from Bohm a while ago, as there were plenty of other third base options available in recent years, whether it was in a trade or free agency.
Bohm is the most likely trade candidate according to Miller, but the team should've moved on from him a while ago.
