The Philadelphia Phillies have now lost seven straight games. Manager Rob Thomson is now on the hot seat , as the Phillies continue to lose. In the seven-game losing streak, four of the losses have come at the hands of the Chicago Cubs .
As the Phillies look to avoid a third straight loss to the Cubs, they got more bad news, this time on the injury front , according to Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic.
Jose Alvarado was removed from the game in the eighth inning after suffering a mid-back spasm. He had not been pitching well, giving up two hits and a walk, with one earned run, while recording just one out.
Overall, pitching was dreadful in the game against the Cubs. Jesus Luzardo walked four batters, and then the bullpen came in to walk another six. It was the first time since September of 2022 that the Phillies walked ten batters in one game.
Meanwhile, the offense has been dreadful as well this year. They are 28th in runs scored, while sitting 28th in batting average, 27th in on-base percentage, and 24th in slugging. This is the worst the offense has been in decades , according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.
"Over the last 128 years, only two Phillies teams have had a lower batting average through 23 games than the 2026 Phillies (.218). It's their lowest mark through 23 games since 1941," Gelb posted on X, formerly Twitter.
In the seven-game losing streak, the Phillies have not scored over four runs, and have scored just 14 runs in the seven games, good for only two per game. Meanwhile, they have given up four or more runs in six of the last seven games.
The Phillies will look to break their losing streak on Wednesday, with the first pitch against the Cubs set for 7:40 p.m. ET.
