The Philadelphia Phillies understand that you can never have enough pitching.
Injuries can get in the way of any well-laid plan for pitchers, and so on Friday, the Phillies added another arm.
The deal brings aboard Connor Gillispie , a 28-year old right-handed pitcher, according to Phillies beat writer Steve Potter .
Gillispie has pitched in the major leagues for both the Miami Marlins and Cleveland Guardians . They haven't been the best outings, though, allowing 25 earned runs in those 34 innings.
The 5-foot-11 righty was originally a ninth-round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2019 MLB Draft out of VCU.
Gillispie actually allowed just two runs in eight innings for the Guardians in 2024.

It was in 2025 with the Marlins were things got much worse, allowing 25 earned runs in 26 innings, including six home runs. Gillispie had 23 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched for Miami.
The Phillies have Zack Wheeler recovering from injury at the front end of the rotation.
Philadelphia's depth in the rotation isn't super deep beyond the expected starters, particularly if prospect Andrew Painter makes the rotation to begin with.
Gillispie isn't necessarily equipped to slide his way into the picture here, but he's got MLB experience and the Phillies have decided they'd like to see what he can do up close, just in case.
