Pistons' Chaz Lanier helps Cruise to first playoff win in the G League
Detroit Pistons rookie Chaz Lanier registered another 20-point outing in the G League, helping the Motor City Cruise to their first-ever playoff victory Tuesday on the road.
Lanier finished with 20 points and six rebounds in a 120-105 quarterfinals win over the Raptors 905 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. He shot 5-of-12 from the field and was a team-high plus-30 in nearly 36 minutes of work.
The 37th overall pick tallied nine points in the fourth quarter alone as the Cruise outscored the 905 34-26 in the period to seal the win. They advance to face either the Long Island Nets or the Osceola Magic, who play on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. EDT, Prime Video).
Lanier has played sporadically with the Pistons, averaging 2.5 points while shooting 30.5% from 3-point range in 29 appearances. He recorded a season-high nine points and two rebounds on Nov. 18 in a win on the road over the Atlanta Hawks .
The 24-year-old is averaging 18.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 39% from 3-point range in 21 appearances with the Cruise. He dropped a career-high 40 points in his debut on Dec. 10 in a loss to the Cleveland Charge.
Lanier has been mostly in a developmental role this season and will likely finish the playoffs with the Cruise. The organization has been pleased with his progress and believes he is a vital part of its long-term plans.
