As Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was awarded a contract extension after coming back down from a 3-1 series deficit to the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Jamahl Mosley would get unfortunate news. After the Pistons pulled off a comeback stun from 3-1, the Magic made the decision to fire Mosley after five seasons, garnering the attention of Bickerstaff.

This hits close to home for Bickerstaff as he and Mosley are close friends, even having a mutual agreement not to speak to one another during the playoff series, until an embrace before and after Game 7.

When speaking on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Bickerstaff would defend Mosley after the news of his firing, saying it’s the “wrong choice” by Orlando. Bickerstaff would even mention how the Magic dealt with injuries, which is not on Mosley.

“Organizations obviously have the right to make their choices,” Bickerstaff said, via SiriusXM, from HoopsHype. “I feel like this is a wrong choice, to be honest with you. Jamahl did a heck of a job of taking that organization and that team from lottery to playoff team, year in, year out. I don’t think there’s been a team whose star players have been injured more than his star players were injured.”

“And for him to be able to hold the ship down and make it to the playoffs year in, year out says a lot about his ability to coach a team, build character, develop players, and create culture and environment,” Bickerstaff continued. “So I know he’ll get a job, and the next job, whatever franchise he goes to will be better off for it.”

It remains to be seen where Mosley ends up, but Bickerstaff and the Pistons prepare for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round.
