A possible selection for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2026 NFL Draft has been arrested.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are very likely to add at least one wide receiver in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, one of the top prospects was just arrested.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter , Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch was arrested early Sunday morning in Athens, Georgia, on two possible misdemeanor charges.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network obtained the police report against Branch, who would reportedly not move far enough when a police officer asked him to move.
“A male, later identified as Zacharia Branch, continued to stand on the sidewalk without making an attempt to move. I continued to give Zacharia Branch verbal commands to move from blocking the sidewalk and advised that if he did not, he would receive a citation for blocking the sidewalk. Zacharia Branch smirked, then stepped backwards and to the right, then remained standing upon the public sidewalk, so as to obstruct, hinder, and impede free passage upon the sidewalk as well as impede free ingress/egress to or from the adjacent places of business. Due to those actions and Zacharia Branch’s failure to comply with multiple verbal lawful commands, he was placed under arrest for misdemeanor Obstruction of LEO and received a citation for Obstructing Public Sidewalks,” Pelissero shared .
Branch, 22, is projected to be a Day 2 pick after recording 81 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns in 2025. He currently ranks as the No. 66 overall player and 10th-best wide receiver on the NFL Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board .
However, news of Branch’s arrest could certainly hurt his draft stock with less than a week until the 2026 NFL Draft kicks off in Pittsburgh.
Branch would give the Steelers a solid No. 3 wide receiver behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. as well as a different dimension to the offense with his speed and quickness, but the team has had its fair share of problems from wide receivers in the past.
With that said, Pittsburgh may have several opportunities to draft Branch with five selections in the top 100 picks (Nos. 21, 53, 76, 85 and 99).
At the NFL Combine , Branch recorded a 4.35-second 40-yard dash, 1.5-second 10-yard split, 38-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-5 broad jump and 20 reps on the bench press.
