The left-back has had his style compared to someone who makes "well-seasoned rice and beans," a typical dish found in homes all across Brazil. In the 32-year-old player's view, he does "the simple things with excellence."
"That well-seasoned rice and beans everyone is talking about means doing the simple things with excellence. I prepared a lot to return to the national team after nine years. I didn't want to miss this opportunity, and I'm doing everything the Mister and his staff have been asking of me. Thank God, it's been working out, and I'll keep giving my best so that this well-seasoned rice and beans can keep making every Brazilian fan happy," he said at The Ridge hotel in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

The Paraíba native from João Pessoa was called back up to the national team last year with the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. His previous opportunity had been in 2016, the year he won Olympic gold.
"Nine years away from the national team—even at 32, with experience and a lot behind me—we're talking about the Brazilian National Team. It's an incredible responsibility, but I had been waiting for it. Thank God, I had been preparing hard physically and mentally for this moment, and now I'm able to help my teammates. I hope to give my best in this next match so we can get through to the next round," he said.
Brazil vs. Norway
On Sunday (5), Brazil will face Norway in the World Cup round of 16. The head-to-head record favors the Norwegians, who have never been beaten in this matchup. For Douglas, that serves as motivation for Brazil.

"I think that can serve as motivation for us so we can put an end to this run of not beating Norway. We hope that in this match, which is so special for us, we can give our best and leave happy with the win," said the Zenit player from Russia.
