Gameweek 8 of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign brought monumental shifts across the table, defined by shattered records, stunning upsets, and high-profile tactical gambles.
From title favorites suffering their first defeat to perennial strugglers making historic statements in London derbies, this round provided plenty of drama.
Below is our comprehensive Premier League Gameweek 8 Review, breaking down the biggest talking points and takeaways from GW8.
In the marquee clash of the weekend, Aston Villa delivered a massive tactical shock by handing Manchester City their first Premier League defeat of the season in a thrilling 2-1 victory.
Nicolas Jackson was the undisputed star of the match, bagging a clinical brace to continue his red-hot streak of four goals in his last four games.
On the flip side, Enzo Maresca surprised supporters by subbing off Rayan Cherki at halftime. Cherki's limited minutes are becoming an alarming headache for managers who brought him into their fantasy squads.
Defending champions Arsenal kept pace in the title race with a professional 2-0 win over Everton. Center-backs Gabriel and Ezri Konsa both found the net, demonstrating the Gunners' unrivaled threat on attacking set pieces.
However, the victory was marred by squad fitness concerns: Riccardo Calafiori started on the bench and was later flagged with an injury, leaving Mikel Arteta with defensive questions ahead of the upcoming fixtures in this EPL Gameweek 8 Review.
For the first time in roughly eight years, Tottenham Hotspur walked away from Stamford Bridge with all three points, stunning Chelsea in a 2-0 London derby triumph.
Back-to-back victories suggest better days are finally ahead for Roberto De Zerbi's men. Meanwhile, Chelsea's afternoon went from bad to worse when Cole Palmer received a red card.
Fortunately for the Blues, Palmer will serve his suspension during midweek League Cup play, keeping him eligible for Gameweek 9.
Liverpool delivered an assertive statement by halting Brighton & Hove Albion's prolific scoring run, securing a disciplined 2-0 victory at Anfield.
Despite missing some first-team regulars, Liverpool looked completely settled under Andoni Iraola's pressing system.
Alexander Isak continued to prove his worth as the focal point in attack, burying a clinical goal to ensure Liverpool remains firmly in the top-four conversation for our Premier League GW 8 Review.
Manchester United's nightmare start to the season plummeted to new depths following a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
The Red Devils now languish in 16th place on the Premier League table. In a decision that shocked supporters and pundits alike, captain Bruno Fernandes was left as an unused substitute on the bench—a glaring sign of the growing tactical and structural fractures inside Old Trafford.
Gameweek 8 proved that no team is untouchable, as Manchester City's slip-up blows the title race wide open while traditional powerhouses fight to salvage their seasons.
