Brilliant in PSG 's goal for six months, Matvey Safonov is not certain to keep his starting spot next season. Paris is now considering recruiting Portuguese international Diogo Costa .
Lucas Chevalier 's backup at the start of the season, Safonov was patient before seizing the opportunity to overtake the French goalkeeper in December.

Thrown in by Luis Enrique to push the former Lille player, whose performances were very poor, the Russian has been entirely satisfactory. Solid in Ligue 1 and brilliant in the Champions League, Safonov is now PSG 's undisputed starting goalkeeper. But for how long?
This summer, the French capital club will again ask itself the question of its starter at this key position. And it is not certain that Luis Enrique and Luis Campos envision the future with Safonov as No. 1.
Despite his performances, the Russian is not the ideal goalkeeper in his Spanish coach's eyes, which is why PSG is exploring the Diogo Costa trail. According to information from Mercado Azul, a specialized site in FC Porto, the 26-year-old Portuguese international is very pleasing to the reigning European champion.
Under contract with the Dragons until June 2030, the Portuguese international (42 caps) has a $66 million release clause. The source indicates that in recent days, several meetings have taken place between PSG, FC Porto and the player's entourage to determine whether an agreement could be reached.

"The case is beginning to gain momentum," according to media specializing in the Portuguese club, providing proof that Campos is determined to finalize the case this summer.
It remains to be seen what PSG would decide for the future of its current goalkeepers in the event of Costa's arrival in the transfer market. The Parisian club probably wants to keep Safonov, who has proven his worth and whose state of mind is irreproachable.
Chevalier, who failed to establish himself despite six months as a starter, could be asked to look elsewhere, via a permanent transfer or a loan. A potential arrival of Costa at PSG would, in any case, entail changes in the French capital.
