The New York Giants were supposed to have a laid-back practice on Thursday afternoon but two players had other ideas.
According to The Athletic's Dan Duggan , wide receiver Xavier Gipson and cornerback Nic Jones got into a fight after the very last play of practice.

Jones and Gipson ended up coming to blows before their teammates broke it up.
"Some fireworks after the last play of a light practice as WR Xavier Gipson and CB Nic Jones looked like a couple featherweights exchanging punches. Teammates moved in quickly to separate them but not before each fired off a few punches (both were wearing helmets)," Duggan reported.

Because the Giants had practiced with pads the last three days, they were allowed to do so again on Thursday.
That typically means fights are highly unlikely to happen with less intensity, but clearly nobody told Gipson or Jones.

It remains unclear what sparked the fight.

Both Gipson and Jones are unlikely to make the Giants' 53-man roster, with Gipson being the bigger longshot between the two.
Jones was initially a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 and spent two years with the team before landing with the Giants in 2025.
The Ball St. product played in 13 contests for New York last season and recorded eight tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed while playing 20 snaps on defense and another 191 on special teams.

Gipson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2023 and was with Gang Green for two-plus seasons, totaling 27 catches for 268 yards and one score.
After being cut loose by the Jets last September, Gipson had a cup of coffee with the Giants before he was waived and latched on with the Philadelphia Eagles, who he appeared in five games for. Gipson caught two balls for six yards in that span.
New York will be back at it at training camp on Friday, when the team holds its next practice beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
