From here on out, the Los Angeles Lakers will be counting on a number of young players to pan out and reach their true potential. With very little draft capital to include in any potential trades, they will also need to get the most out of their draft prospects.
One such player is Arthur Kaluma, a forward who went undrafted in 2025 and played for their G League affiliate this past season. He stood out during summer league play this month, averaging 18.6 points on 60.9% field-goal shooting and 50% from 3-point range in 23 minutes a game. He was rewarded by the Lakers with a two-way contract and will get a chance to earn some minutes once training camp starts at the end of the summer.

Quentin Grimes, a two-way wing who spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers , is another young player the Lakers have high hopes for. On the "Mason & Ireland Show" on ESPN LA radio , he talked about how impressed he and a couple of his new teammates were with Kaluma's summer league performance.
"No, I mean you can tell guys who have a little bit of different swagger, different attention to detail during the game and a little bit more of a pop and aggressiveness," Grimes said. "You could tell that from the jump at the last game. We were watching it, he's shooting the ball and every time he shot it, we thought it was going in. Me, Collin (Sexton), Bronny (James), we thought it was good every time he shot it. He just plays with a different confidence and a different kind of swagger, so he definitely an NBA player for sure, 100%."
At 6-foot-7, Kaluma has the ability to potentially give Los Angeles a boost on the offensive end. This new-look roster will have to greatly excel on the offensive end, given its relative lack of two-way players and proven high-level defenders on the perimeter.
In his four seasons in college, Kaluma averaged 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while shooting 43.8% overall and 32.1% from downtown. Last season, in the G League's tip-off tournament and regular season, he put up 13.8 points a game and shot 55.2% from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc.
