On Wednesday, the Las Vegas Raiders announced that Kirk Cousins would be the team's starting quarterback over Fernando Mendoza to open up the new season. However, elsewhere, the team got a tough injury update on one of their draft picks from this past April.
"Raiders rookie DE Keyron Crawford, their 3rd-round pick out of Auburn, suffered an Achilles injury and will miss the entire 2026 NFL season," reported Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter.
Crawford suffered the injury during the Raiders' final preseason game last week, and now will unfortunately have to sit out a full year before having the chance to play in his first regular season game.

The former Auburn Tigers star was expected to have a sizable role on the team's defense this year, a unit that is looking to work its way back into respectability this season after struggling to get stops over the last few years.
At this point, it's unclear if Crawford has suffered a full tear of his Achilles, but either way, it's a brutal injury for the rookie and the Raiders as a whole.
Meanwhile, some fans were underwhelmed at the announcement that Cousins would be the team's starting quarterback instead of Mendoza, although it's not off the table that the number one overall draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner could end up earning the job at some point during the season.
In any case, the Raiders are slated to kick off their new season on Sept. 13 at home against the Miami Dolphins .
