The Las Vegas Raiders are just 2-13 and currently in the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Pete Carroll's first season as the Raiders head coach has not gone well, and the trade and contract extension for veteran quarterback Geno Smith also haven't paid off just yet.
In Week 16, the Raiders fell to the Houston Texans , 23-21. In Week 17, the Raiders face the 2-13 New York Giants at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
With both teams at the bottom of the NFL standings, the loser of this game will likely have the No. 1 pick in April.
For the Raiders, it seems those chances just improved with a big injury update that came out on Christmas Eve.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Raiders tight end Brock Bowers has been placed on IR, meaning his season is over.
"The Raiders are placing star TE Brock Bowers on injured reserve today, officially ending his season, per sources. Bowers has dealt with a knee injury since Week 1. With playoffs long out of reach, the decision was made to get it taken care of now and focus on being 100% in 2026," Pelissero posted on X.
Bowers leads the Raiders in receptions (64), yards (680) and touchdowns (seven).
He was selected No. 13 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft after a stellar career with the Georgia Bulldogs .
Bowers had a season-high outing against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 2, catching 12 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
In Week 16 against the Texans, he had five receptions for 33 yards and a score, and it marked the third time in the last four games that Bowers caught a touchdown pass.
In his rookie season, Bowers caught 112 passes for 1,194 yards with five scores to earn first-team All-Pro status, but he played just 12 games this season due to injuries. He has been a Pro Bowl selection both seasons.
The Giants visit the Raiders at 4:05 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox.
