Raiders sign free-agent WR Klint Kubiak is familiar with
The Las Vegas Raiders are signing another player new head coach Klint Kubiak is familiar with. The Raiders intend to sign wide receiver Dareke Young to a one-year contract, his agency announced via social media on Thursday evening. Young played for Kubiak and the Seattle Seahawks last season.
Young only earned 53 snaps on offense last season, notching two receptions for 48 yards. He obviously made an impression on Kubiak nonetheless. He was stuck on the depth chart behind some pretty good wide receivers like Cooper Kupp , Jaxon Smith-Njigba , and Rashid Shaheed . It's plausible to think Young will have a better opportunity to compete for snaps in Vegas.
Where Young should make an instant impact is via special teams. The former Lenoir-Rhyne standout played 156 special teams snaps for the Seahawks last season. That accounted for roughly 34 percent of the team's snaps in that phase of the game.
Young was drafted by the Seahawks in 2022. He lasted his entire four-year rookie contract in Seattle, routinely securing a role for himself as a mainstay on special teams. That should please new special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis. The Raiders will make use of Young on special teams while he competes for an offensive role.
