Former Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald is still impacting the organization, including his support of Matthew Stafford . And a Rams defender is already recruiting Donald for unretirement after the Myles Garrett trade, according to a post on X by Jaylen Watson .
"@AaronDonald97 hit me big bro🎢"
The 35-year-old Donald retired after the 2023 season. He played 10 seasons and made the Pro Bowl every single year. He also made the AP All-Pro first team in all but two seasons. One of those was his first year when he was chosen as the defensive rookie of the year.
Would Aaron Donald come out of retirement?
It seems very unlikely. The Rams would probably love it, though. His video on Instagram shows he's still in top-notch shape.
However, Donald has repeatedly said he's done, according to Cam Heyward 's "Not Just Football" podcast via USA Today.
"I always said I was going to do eight years and be done," Donald said while comparing himself to Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders. "I just happened to win a Super Bowl my eighth year. And I was like, 'Man, this is destiny!'
"You can't just win a Super Bowl and walk away. You want to experience that again."
Of course, Rams head coach Sean McVay has tried to coax him back.
"The first two years, they would talk about it," Donald said, referencing his discussions with McVay and the Rams. "But it kind of quiet down because he know where I'm at."
The Rams getting Myles Garrett in the blockbuster trade with the Browns puts them clearly at the top of the Super Bowl favorite heap. Their defense has a chance to be elite at all three levels. And they are also expected to have one of the top offenses in the NFL.
That's perhaps a good reason for Donald to at least consider coming out of retirement. But the NFL is a tough game, even for the young players.
