Former Tennessee Vols EDGE Byron Young is entering his fourth season with the Los Angeles Rams.
And it's a big year for the former Vol.
Young is entering the final season of his rookie contract, and he'll be playing across from superstar EDGE Myles Garrett in Los Angeles this fall, so there's potential for the 2023 third-round pick to earn a massive contract (unless he receives an extension before the season) with a big 2026 season.
Over his first three years in the NFL, Young has totaled 27.5 sacks and 205 tackles.
Not bad for a guy who was working at a Dollar General and not playing football in 2019.
Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about Young this week and he wasn't shy about praising the South Carolina native.
"I think what's been great for BY is that he's just gotten better every single year," said McVay. "And when you know his backstory, I mean, what an incredible human being. You want to talk about a guy that's mentally and physically tough.
"I thought his best practice of camp was against the Cowboys. We've obviously been smart with what his workload looks like. He felt good. I thought he had some good, quick wins with being able to counter inside. I thought he was stout against the run. He did a really good job with everything that was asked of him the other day. And he had another good day today. If you don't love BY, something's wrong with you. He's a special human. His story's incredible. I love everything he's about."
Hopefully Young gets that big contract sooner rather than later. He certainly deserves it.
