The Los Angeles Rams were already one of the most improved teams in the NFL, but now there isn't even an argument to be made for anybody else. On Monday, Los Angeles completed a shocking blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire star defensive end Myles Garrett .
Garrett has only made two playoff appearances in his career and has never been on a team where he can actually contend for a championship. During his introductory press conference in Los Angeles, he made it very clear that is what he is here to do, via Leah Doherty of Cleveland 19 News.
"Very excited to be here, it's an honor and a blessing to be in this building," Garrett said. "I have a lot of respect for all the guys here, from the coaching staff, management and many of the players. I've gotten to see it firsthand. It's a very quality team, a quality business and I like the way things operate.
"I'm looking forward to helping bring a championship here to L.A."
The Rams did have to give up a big piece of their defense in this trade, as star defensive end Jared Verse went back to the Browns in the deal. While Verse is a younger player and has a lot of years at the top of the game left in front of him, it was understandably impossible for the Rams to refuse the temptation to send him away to acquire Garrett.
Los Angeles is working on a limited timeline with Matthew Stafford 's career winding down. The reigning league MVP only likely has one or two years left, which makes that the Super Bowl window that the Rams are working with. Even if Ty Simpson becomes a franchise quarterback, it's hard to see a scenario where he is ready to lead a Super Bowl contender right away.
That gives limited time for the Rams to compete, and they are going all-in. With Garrett leading the defense, this has a chance to be one of the best teams in the NFL on both sides of the ball.
