The Los Angeles Rams spent the offseason loading up on star power. However, the most important offensive breakthrough of the 2026 season may ultimately come from a player already inside the building. As Organized Team Activities begin to take shape , the Rams' potential 2026 breakout star is increasingly projecting to be tight end Davis Allen . Davante Adams and Puka Nacua will obviously command the spotlight. Matthew Stafford will also operate one of the league's most dangerous passing attacks. On top of those, Allen appears perfectly positioned to capitalize on more opportunities unfolding inside Sean McVay's offense. If the early trajectory of these OTA installations is any indication, Allen could be preparing for the kind of leap that transforms both his career and the Rams' championship ceiling.

Rams as true contenders

When the 2026 NFL offseason began, Les Snead and Sean McVay wasted absolutely no time signaling their intentions to the rest of the league. The Rams secondary received a dramatic overhaul with the additions of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson . Kamren Curl added further stability at safety. Meanwhile, Poona Ford strengthened the defensive front. The Rams also secured important long-term insurance at quarterback by selecting Ty Simpson early in the first round. That ensures future stability behind Stafford.

The re-signing of Kevin Dotson quietly remained one of the offseason's most important moves. it preserves offensive line continuity, which is critical for a team built around Stafford's precision passing game. Altogether, the Rams constructed a roster loaded with elite talent and championship ambition.

Yet despite all the additions, one of the most fascinating developments entering OTAs may involve a player already familiar with McVay's system.

Ready to evolve

One of the clearest themes emerging from the Rams' early offseason structure is the coaching staff's projected commitment to heavier offensive personnel groupings. Los Angeles appears poised to embrace significantly more multiple-tight-end formations. This strategic adjustment would allow McVay to blend physical rushing concepts with layered vertical passing attacks.

If defenses respond with lighter personnel to defend Stafford, Adams, and Nacua through the air, the Rams can punish opponents physically on the ground. If defenses counter with heavier fronts, Stafford immediately gains advantageous matchups in play-action situations. That naturally places far greater importance on the tight end room.

The Rams no longer simply need rotational blockers or occasional underneath receiving options. This version of the offense demands hybrid weapons capable of aligning across multiple formations and creating mismatches after the catch.

Colby Parkinson is already expected to occupy a meaningful role in those packages. Meanwhile, Tyler Higbee continues serving as a veteran stabilizer. But projecting forward through these OTA installations, Davis Allen increasingly looks like the player who can thrive.

Perfect fit

As the Rams continue building toward mandatory minicamp and eventually training camp, Allen projects as one of the biggest potential beneficiaries of McVay's offensive transformation. Physically, he presents the exact type of matchup nightmare modern offenses covet.

At his size, Allen naturally overwhelms defensive backs in contested situations. He also still possesses enough athletic fluidity to stress linebackers working in space. That combination becomes especially dangerous inside their explosive offense. If the offseason continues unfolding along its current trajectory, Allen should find himself operating against favorable coverage looks consistently throughout the season.

Allen has already shown flashes of strong football intelligence and spatial awareness. Those traits become even more valuable inside this kind of offense. He projects as the type of player Stafford could quickly grow to trust in critical down-and-distance situations.

Opportunity meets preparation

What makes Allen's breakout projection particularly compelling is how naturally his skill set complements the rest of the Rams' offensive structure. Defenses entering games against Los Angeles will already face very tough decisions trying to contain Adams, Nacua, and Stafford. That attention creates massive voids between the numbers. Allen projects perfectly into those openings.

His ability to operate as a chain-moving target gives McVay tremendous flexibility. He possesses the physicality necessary to fight through contact and create extra yardage after the catch.

More importantly, Allen appears positioned to benefit directly from the Rams' projected shift toward heavier personnel usage. Increased snaps in multiple-tight-end packages naturally create more opportunities for him to establish rhythm and develop timing with Stafford. If those opportunities continue expanding during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, the breakout conversation will only grow louder.

The next offensive mismatch

Every offseason generates breakout predictions, of course. However, the strongest projections usually stem from schematic opportunity rather than pure hype. That is precisely why Davis Allen feels like such a compelling candidate entering 2026. He checks every major box.

Allen possesses the physical profile. He projects well alongside Stafford, Adams, and Nacua. Most importantly, the structure of the offense itself appears to be moving directly toward his strengths. If the current trajectory continues throughout OTAs and into training camp, Allen may become one of the Rams' most important offensive weapons by the time the 2026 season truly begins.
