The Los Angeles Rams are currently gearing up for the 2026 NFL season, looking to build off last year's trip to the NFC Championship Game. The Rams have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and have only gotten better this offseason, making several moves, including trading for Kansas City Chiefs star Trent McDuffie.
Recently, however, head coach Sean McVay revealed that he almost stepped away from coaching following the 2022 season for the Rams.
"You could use the narrative that I was going to go to media or whatever, but the truth would've been I was quitting," McVay said, per Bussin' With The Boys, via Jack McKessy of USA Today. "I couldn't handle the losing. It was almost like a scarlet letter."
However, McVay's wife, Veronika Khomyn, ended up convincing him to stay on board when he was considering taking a job in media.
"Basically, I was trying to rationalize and justify why I should do it," McVay said. "And I remember I was explaining it, and she just kind of looked at me … and she's like, 'You know, that never really sounded like the kind of leader you wanted to be.' It hit me like a ton of bricks," he said.
The Rams had a rough 2022 season on the heels of their Super Bowl the previous year, dealing with immense injury struggles and missing the playoffs altogether. However, Los Angeles has made the postseason every year since then, working their way back to the conference championship this past year before falling just short to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks .
McVay will look to get his team back over the hump in 2026 with one of the most loaded rosters in the NFL.
