Prior to Tuesday night's game, the Texas Rangers made a bullpen roster move to give them some coverage.
Veteran righty Chris Martin has been activated from the 15-day Injured List. Martin had been on the Injured List since April 15 with a right shoulder impingement, causing him to miss the Rangers ' last 30 games.
Martin's last appearance with the Rangers came way back on April 14th, where he went just one-third of an inning, recording a strikeout.
Before making his return, Martin made three rehab assignments at Triple-A Round Rock, where he allowed eight hits and five earned runs in 2 2/3 innings with zero walks or strikeouts.
Most recently, Martin pitched on back-to-back days last Friday and Saturday, allowing just one run in a pair of innings.
Things weren't going super smoothly for Martin before he landed on the IL as he had allowed five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and zero walks.
The Rangers will hope that Martin can find some success as he slides back into a Rangers bullpen that has performed amongst the best in all of baseball through the first month and a half of the 2026 MLB season.
While gaining a bullpen piece, the Rangers will also be losing one as a result of this new transaction.
Gavin Collyer has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in order to make room for Martin on the active roster. In six games with Round Rock earlier this season, Collyer posted a 2.70 ERA.
Collyer has been solid at the big-league level this season, posting a 2.84 ERA in his first-ever stint pitching in the MLB world.
Having not allowed a run in 11 straight appearances to open his MLB career, Collyer set a Rangers' franchise record for the most scoreless outings to begin a career.
First-year manager Skip Schumaker believes that Collyer has the stuff to pitch in leverage as his career progresses.
With Schumaker and the Rangers' front office both liking what they have seen in the short sample size from Collyer, it seems that he will be back with the Rangers sooner rather than later and will still have a sizeable impact on the team this season.
With Tuesday's transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club's Major League roster, along with two players on the 60-day Injured List (LHPs Cody Bradford and Jordan Montgomery ).
