At 6-foot-1, nearly 220 pounds, and with a smile that features some chipped chicklets, J.T. Miller is not soon to be confused with Tinker Bell. But indeed, the New York Rangers captain rose to the occasion at the players' annual Halloween party earlier in the week dressed as the famed Disney character.
"It was a lot of fun," Miller said Friday after the Rangers returned to practice following two days away from the rink. "My wife picks out partner costumes where I'm the woman and she's the guy … and this year I was Tinker Bell and she was Peter Pan.
"I'm sure there are [pictures]. I didn't take any, but I'm sure there are some out there."
Miller probably does his fair share of dressing up at home, where he and his wife Natalie are raising two daughters — eight-year-old Scotlyn and seven-year-old Scarlett — and son Owen, who is four. But the 33-year-old had no hesitation being the belle of the ball Tuesday when the Rangers gathered with their families for a fun night amidst a busy first month of the 2026-27 NHL season.
"I just think it makes the group closer," Miller said about the team get together.
Following their 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, the Rangers were one of only two teams to have played 14 games already this season. And it appeared to be catching up with them, since they hit a five-day break in the schedule on a three-game losing streak and just 1-4-1 in their past six.
"I think this was a great time to have [a get together], plenty of time between games, some days off in there," Miller explained. "A little, down, I would say, with our record the last couple of weeks, so I think it was good to have a little fun and get away from it, re-energize, and it makes you excited to come to work on days like today. We all had a lot of fun as group with the wives and girlfriends. It was a great time."
Defenseman Sean Durzi was impressed with the creative costumes on display at the party, including one couple who came dressed as the Statue of Liberty and a tourist.
But which Rangers player had the best costume?
"I think Scotty Morrow won," Miller offered. "His was really good. I don't want to say what he was, but he did great."
The Rangers practice again Saturday and then are back in game action Sunday, when they host the Edmonton Oilers at Madison Square Garden.
